Thunderbox Road is an exhibit of 12 full-size outhouses (also referred
to as Thunderboxes) that top artists throughout the Hill Country have transformed into Thunderbox Works of art. The exhibit is traveling, as
a group of 12, throughout the Hill Country and San Antonio at local arts festivals, wineries and venues.
Representatives from Hill Country Arts organizations serve on the Judge’s Panel, determining the $ 5,000 Cash Award for the Judge’s Choice Award. And, ballots will be available while the Thunderboxes are on tour to determine the winner of the People’s Choice Award, also a $5,000 Cash Award. You may also vote online.
After a seven-month tour, (October 2008 through April 2009)
the Thunderboxes will be auctioned on May 9, 2009 at the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville.
Thunderbox Road was inspired by a book: Nature Calls, The History, Lore and Charm of Outhouses. Because Sand Creek Post and Beam sells barn kits based on historic turn-of-the century designs, Thunderbox Road is a tribute to an iconic structure on every farm and ranch. |
